Zoo Member's Only Night

We spent the evening at the zoo for a Member's Only Night. Donnie & Sherry came with us and Valerie & Justin brought Gavin for his first trip to the zoo!

IKEA

We took a little field trip to IKEA. Abigail was hilarious in the bedroom department. She wanted to climb on all the beds. She would go up to the fancy pillows and tuck her cute little legs under. (She has started doing this on our bed too, and can climb up all on her own.) I must apologize for the not-so-fabulous pictures. The flash in my pocket-sized camera is dead. :(

Matt's New Toy

Matt purchased a new laptop and it arrived yesterday. It's an 23" Asus and from the first time Matt laid eyes on it, he lovingly name it "The Beast". Today he's still learning the new functions and features of The Beast...

East Cobb Park

Wednesday nights throughout the summer there's music at East Cobb Park. Jay Memory sets up on stage and sings a wide variety of music. Families come out and bring a picnic dinner to enjoy some outdoor music and play. This was our second Jay Memory night and Matt joined us, which translates to pictures!

Popsicles are Messy

We enjoyed an impromptu playdate and all the girls had popsicles. Abigail was so messy eating the grape popsicle! It was everywhere so I slowly and carefully removed her shirt and shoes. The kiddos played in the sprinklers and had fun getting wet. It's going to be a great summer!

Grillin' at The Cook's

We joined the Cooks for some grillin' out. It's especially fun for Elaine and I because the hubbies usually have a project or two. I think the projects are just a good excuse to finally get us together! We live so close and can go weeks sometime without hanging out. It's fun to see the girls playing together, they are only 6mo apart in age.

Abigail followed Elaine & Evie upstairs and was very jealous that Evie was getting bath time, when Abigail was not. It was much easier to let them play then to hear Abigail whine. :)

This last video has a lot of bath-time-booty, it's not easy to keep the girls sitting at all times. The password is different, it's Evie's middle name (all lowercase letters).

Brown Bag Concert Series

For the last 10 years, Marietta Square has hosted a Brown Bag Concert Series during May and September. Music is played from 12-1 on Thursdays. Abigail and I attended one last September and were excited it was back this month. Unfortunately, the musician informed us that the city was cancelling the series. We heard 'reasons' of complaints from local businesses on lack of patronage during the hour of music and lack of parking due to popularity of the series and even that it has become more of a mom & kid thing instead of something for local business people. If you're interested you can read an article posted to the AJC.com HERE. The pictures below were taken by the newspaper photographer.
The "dance floor" during the Thursday Brown Bag concert on the Marietta Square was fills with kids. Abigail is the little one in the center with her back to the camera.

This cute little blonde is our friend Bella. The picture was too cute not to share!

Abigail and I will be attending the other events this month, so far the September events have been cancelled. (I did email my Councilman, as are other moms to see if the series can be saved.) It was lots of fun and Abigail enjoyed dancing with all the big girls so it would be a huge bummer if this series was discontinued.

Jump Practice

Abigail and I had fun playing at a friend's house then went to Jay Memory at East Cobb Park. Jay Memory was wild! (I had forgotten my camera so no pictures from the park.) Jay plays music and sings, moms and kids bring picnics and enjoy and play. Abigail was EVERYWHERE! She had no qualms running off away from me to play with someone's toy car or chase after a ball. Abigail also played on the playground, a lot. When we got home I was worn out, Abigail got an early bath and I expected her to go to bed early. I could not have been more wrong. Matt and I were watching something on the DVR and Abigail decides to practice jumping.

Mother's Day

After some delicious cafe con leche and cuban bread we attended church. Then Matt, Abigail and I visited the Rhodes Family and played in the pool. Matt didn't take any pictures, but Alyson did so if/when I get these pictures I will post them!In wonderful Sunday tradition, the Henriquez clan got together. In honor of Mother's Day, Grandpa wanted "all the mothers" over, which extended the invitation to my Abuela, Dolores (my Aunt Joanna's mother) and Margie (my Aunt Sharon's mother).

Indian Rocks Beach

On Saturday, we drove to Indian Rocks Beach to visit friends, Robert & Jeri, and go to the beach!
Abigail has only been to the beach one day last May, she was hot and cranky at only 5mo old. She and I attended a playdate a few weeks back at a giant indoor sandbox, Abigail did not like the sand and wanted nothing to do with it. With those in mind, I was not sure what to expect from this beach trip but tried to be prepared. Abigail wore water shoes, we had an umbrella and tent for shade, and our giant outdoor blanket. When we stopped to find the umbrella, Nano just had to get her a bucket and shovel to play in the sand.

Abigail really enjoyed this day at the beach! She sat in the waves with daddy and played in the sand. We had fun picking out shells and putting them in the bucket. Abigail even seemed to enjoy the water, as long as she wasn't in her little float. I hope we can take her back before next summer!

We went inside for lunch and Abigail had some fun playing with Ace.

The Little Artist

I wanted Abigail to make a craft for Mother's Day cards this year. While she likes to color, she doesn't press very hard with the crayons yet. I found color pencils but that was not a great idea because when sharpened they look like something that could easily be impailed upon so they were quickly taken away. Abigail found her nitch with the water colors! Like the best of artists, she did not remain clean but her art is beautiful!

Busch Gardens

Matt, Abigail and I planned a trip to Busch Gardens and Abuela, Christina, Marisa, Mason & Melina joined us for a fun day! With two strollers and a wheel chair, we were quite the wide load!
Abigail has been a big fan of Elmo lately. Before our trip to Tampa, I actually went out to find her a little Elmo and she calls him "MmmElmo". It's super cute. All three kids were taken back by the life-size Elmo. Luckily, we didn't have to wait but a couple minutes to meet both Elmo and Big Bird so we were able to some warming up in before the pictures (unlike the rush of children quickly on and quickly off Santa's lap!). Matt was able to ride the Grover-coaster with Mason a few times because there was NO line, which was a shocker. Then Cookie and Abby Cadabby made cameo visits with the kiddos.

Marisa and I swapped daughters to ride Snuffy's Elephant Rump, which is the equivalent to the Dumbo ride at The Magic Kingdom.
Mason ran right out into the giant bounce house. Melina was not interested/slightly frightened and actually wanted to help Abigail get out. Abigail was trying to chase after Mason. It took a while for Abigail to get her footing and as soon as she'd get up, Mason would run towards her and jump so that Abigail would fall. She loved it and giggled every time! Eventually, Melina joined in the fun. They had the run of the place, literally, no one else was there which was a great intro for Abigail to this type of fun.
We also enjoyed looking at flamingos, crocodiles, monkeys, a hippo, fish, lions and lemurs. Another great day!

The Magic Kingdom

Abigail met Pinocchio upon entering the park. Nano and Daddy took Abigail to see if she'd be less scared without Mommy around. The 'high five' was a good ice breaker! We were interrupted while taking pictures in front of Cinderella's Castle because someone just had to know where she could buy a dress like Abigail's for her daughter! What a compliment! (Too bad it was specially ordered just for Abigail from her wonderful cousin Marisa.)

We walked through the Swiss Family Robinson house then went on the Jungle Cruise. Our 'tour guide' had all these SUPER cheesy jokes the foreigners didn't get, which made the jokes really funny. The fake animals on the Jungle Cruise did scare Abs a bit which made her want to snuggle safely in Daddy's arms. Abigail enjoyed some playground time while Matt, Nicholas and I rode Pirates of the Caribbean. Everyone enjoyed some time inside with A/C for the Country Bear Jamboree. Abigail liked the bears, all the singing and the talking deer mounted on the wall. I was anxious for Abs to experience It's a Small World and we probably should have rode it more than once. For being 'a small world' there's a lot to see and take in! especially for a 16mo old!

Abigail rode the Carousel with Nano. (This was the first of many carousel rides throughout our week in Florida.) She liked it so much she cried and fussed to Nano when the ride was over. She did not realize there were more fun rides to come! The line for Dumbo was super hot but Abigail had fun trying to figure out the control to make Dumbo go up and down. We took her on the Tea Cups, really not sure what reaction we would receive. She loved it and gave us a hearty giggle every time Daddy gave the cup a little spin. Then we rode The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Abigail continuously, happily pointed out "POOH!". She also really liked with the car bounced with T-I-double G-ERRRRR.

I stood in line so Abigail could meet some Disney Princesses. As silly as it seems, the pictures will be super cute in Abigail's scrapbook and I know she'll like looking back at the pictures. Aurora, Sleeping Beauty, was not as friendly and personable. Abigail was very confused. Next Abigail met Cinderella who was so great complimenting Abigail and pointed out how they had matching earrings. Abigail wasn't as frightened by the princesses as she was other characters, but she still didn't completely get it. Belle was the last princess and her dress was very bright! The picture we have doesn't show Abigail giving Belle a high five or waving good-bye, I guess she eventually accepted the strangeness. Abigail took a nice little nap while Matt, Nick and I rode Space Mountain then we returned to Toon Town to check out Minnie Mouse's House. Abigail loved the big chairs and was not happy when we asked her to get out of them.
My friend Celia joined us in the evening. She actually has been working for Disney since 2007. Celia joined us for a second ride on the Mad Tea Cups and Abigail enjoyed it just as much as the first time!
Abigail and I had joined my parents in Orlando last October for the Dragon Boat Race. While we did not visit any parks, we did have fun in all the Downtown Disney shops. Check out how our little peanut has changed over the last 7 months, she's still a peanut compared to the size of Mickey & Minnie.

We were at the park for a grand total of 12 hours. I'm already itching to go back. It was such a fun day!
